Accessibility Info: Unfortunately the Winchester Street Theatre is not currently wheelchair accessible. There are three steps outside of the front entrance, a small platform, and then three more steps to the lobby (a straight hallway that then leads you to the theatre). To access the private gender-neutral restrooms, there are five additional steps at the end of the lobby. The seats in the theatre are on risers with stairs; please contact info@tdt.org if you have any questions regarding accessing our space.

TDT and CanAsian Dance are excited to launch the second year of Magic Mixing! This one-week residency program pairs two Asian diaspora dance artists from different dance forms/practices for the first time together to exchange, explore, and create collaboratively.

This focused studio time will allow artists to share their practices and interests in an open, non-judgmental space, fostering creative exploration and collaboration. During the week, the artists will meet with CAD Artistic Lead Angie Cheng to discuss topics such as their relationship to form, context, and dance practice, offering the opportunity for mutual mentorship and learning through diverse perspectives.

This season’s artist participants are Soeine Bac (Vancouver) & Keegan Shim (Toronto).

The residency will culminate in an informal, open showing of their work, followed by a facilitated audience talkback. This is a free community gathering and open to the public.

Keegan Shim

Keegan Shim is a Chinese-Canadian roller skater, dancer, instructor, and choreographer based in Tkaronto (Toronto). He has a background in street dance, with over 15+ years of experience training in multiple styles, performing, teaching, and competing. He found his love for roller skating in early 2019 and had immersed himself in the culture, studying under a diverse range of local and international instructors and participating in numerous skate events and festivals. Keegan’s work is rooted in finding connections between roller skating and street dance forms, treating them as part of the same ecosystem rather than as separate entities.

Soeine Bac

Soeine Bac: I am a Korean-born artist based in Vancouver, Canada, working with movement, installation, sound, and image. I studied dance and media art in Canada, followed by postgraduate study in Fine Art and Visual Cultures in London, UK. During my training in interactive art, I began exploring improvisation through live performance using computerized sensors. Later, within the context of Live Art in the UK, improvisation became central as my engagement with somatic movement deepened. This shift allowed my movement practice to expand beyond the conventional frame of dance toward relational, process-based work.
