Accessibility

Toronto Dance Theatre is committed to increasing accessibility to audiences and making sure every person has a wonderful experience with TDT.

If you have access needs or a question about accessibility for specific programming at TDT, contact our team by emailing info@tdt.org. We are always looking to make improvements and we appreciate your feedback and suggestions.

Physical Access

Unfortunately the Winchester Street Theatre where TDT is based is not currently wheelchair accessible. We apologize for the barrier this can create and while it is inaccessible, we will provide digital options throughout the season as well as help ensure off-site activities are wheelchair accessible.

There are three steps outside of the front entrance, a small platform, and then three more steps to the lobby (a straight hallway that then leads you to the theatre). To access the private gender-neutral restrooms, there are five additional steps at the end of the lobby. The seats in the theatre are on risers with stairs; please contact info@tdt.org if it is more comfortable to have a seat near the front to reduce the number of steps.

To access the studio on the bottom floor of the building (Studio B), there are 3 steps, a small platform, and then another staircase with 10 steps.

ASL Interpretation

TDT is driven to improve access to ASL users throughout the season and is increasing the number of programs that will include ASL options.

Events and shows that include ASL Interpretation will mention it on the event’s webpage in the ‘Accessibility Info’ section.

Captioning

When ASL interpretation is not available, TDT will seek to provide Open Live Captioning for shows and events, where possible.

Events and shows that include captioning will mention it on the event’s webpage in the ‘Accessibility Info’ section.

Moving/Interactive Shows

Some shows or events may involve audiences to move short distances around the space to follow a moving performance. In these circumstances, there will be a Front of House Manager or Volunteer who will be able to assist you if required. We can also make chairs available in the different areas. If these options would benefit you during a moving or interactive show, please either contact us in advance (call 416-967-1365 x123 or email at info@tdt.org) or notify Front of House when you arrive for the show.

Service Animals

We welcome people with disabilities to bring their accredited guide dogs or service animals to TDT events at the Winchester Street Theatre, including service animals in training. If you are bringing a service animal, we appreciate you notifying TDT staff in advance by emailing info@tdt.org or calling 416-967-1365 x123 to ensure appropriate seating is assigned for you.

Personal Support Workers

We welcome personal support persons who are accompanying patrons with special needs. Support persons are considered to be an individual hired or chosen by the patron to provide services or personal assistance with communication, mobility, medical needs, or personal care.

Personal support persons will not have to pay admission to attend. Please notify TDT staff when you purchase a ticket and we will put another ticket aside to ensure there is a seat secured for your support person.

Washrooms

The public washroom facilities at the Winchester Street Theatre are single, All-Gender washrooms. However, please be advised that these are not barrier-free washrooms as there are stairs to each washroom area.
