Expanding on our existing support programs for Toronto dance artists, TDT is happy to launch a new initiative providing subsidized studio rental hours, funded through the Toronto Arts Council / Open Door grant program.
This pilot project offers artists who identify as belonging to TAC’s priority groups, and/or artists currently working on a project without or little funding to book TDT’s studios at a reduced rate of 10$ per hour during the following four periods:
November 25-29, 2024
January 6-10, 2025
January 13-17, 2025
February 24-28, 2025
From 8:00 AM to 6:00 PM, Monday through Friday, in blocks of 2-4 hours per booking.
Maximum of 24 hours per candidate over the entire four week period.
Participants will be invited to complete a follow-up survey regarding studio access, availability, and associated costs they experience as a dancer/choreographer in Toronto.
Artists can make a request by emailing info@tdt.org with:
- Artist bio
- A short project description (one to two sentences)
- Exact dates and times for booking (rehearsals and choreographic projects only, no classes).
Requests are being accepted on a rolling basis, with a cut-off date of November 17, 2024, for November bookings.
All other requests must be finalized by the deadline of February 14, 2025.
Additional Info:
- A $25 deposit is required to secure bookings
- We welcome requests from artists of any dance form / body based practices who meet the eligibility criteria
- Studios are equipped with Marley flooring; tap and flamenco shoes are permitted in select studios, subject to availability
In response to the critical need for affordable rehearsal spaces in Toronto, this project aims to lay the foundation for TDT’s studios to be used more frequently by artists who traditionally face financial barriers in accessing dance space. Each participating artist will be invited to complete a survey at the end of their rental, allowing their valuable feedback to shape future models for renting TDT spaces in better supporting independent artists.
