New Moves for The School of Toronto Dance Theatre
TDT and the School have been thriving as separate organizations for decades, each with its own mission, while sharing facilities and creating a hub for dance in the city. The School of Toronto Dance Theatre has made remarkable strides in their development and today they announced they will be moving at the end of the season to a new space in Artscape’s Daniels Spectrum building.
As the School has evolved, their visionary educational programming for the next generation of dance artists has expanded, ultimately outgrowing the Winchester Street Theatre over time. The School is an integral part of the dance ecosystem in Toronto and beyond, and is an incredible resource for TDT and many other dance companies. This move and their current re-branding will take them further in providing exceptional training for emerging dance artists and contributing to the performing arts. We wish the School all the best on this exciting chapter, and we will continue to celebrate the School’s future achievements proudly as we visit and see their students flourish in the new space.
The School acquiring a new venue represents an important opportunity for the greater dance community to have access to more creative spaces, particularly relevant given the recent losses of venues dedicated to dance in Toronto. Furthermore, the available space at the Winchester Street Theatre will allow TDT to expand its artistic outreach with new residency programs and the potential to partner with more independent artists and dance organizations. As the main steward of the theatre space here at Winchester Street Theatre, TDT will be working closely with the building owner, Toronto Dance Foundation (TDF), to devise a plan for the available space. If you are interested in having dedicated studio and office space for your dance organization or collective, please stay tuned for a separate release in the coming weeks.
