Call for Board of Directors

March 17, 2023

One of Canada’s longest running contemporary dance companies, Toronto Dance Theatre (TDT), is seeking dedicated individuals to join its Board of Directors.

Led by Artistic Director Andrew Tay, TDT is the legendary artistic home and collaboration hub where, since 1968, curious creators, ensemble performers and audiences inspire each other to create and celebrate new explorations of dance – playful to provocative, from near and far – that reflect our times, our diverse cultures and communities. Ever fresh and adventurous, TDT is one of Canada’s leading innovators in contemporary dance while being one of the very few dance companies in the country with an ensemble of dancers.

Role of The Board of Directors
TDT’s Board of Directors is a committed group of individuals with a passion for the performing arts and a deep commitment to the organization’s future health and growth. They are ambassadors for TDT and dance in the greater community.

What is my role as a Board of Director?
You will directly contribute to the strategic development of the organization in the company’s renewed artistic direction and ensure the sound and sustainable development of the company through good governance practices. Board members play an active role in TDT’s annual fundraising event, Tour de Danse, which raises over $25,000 each year for the organization.  The event brings together the board and members of the community who are paired with dancers from the company ensemble for a memorable dance performance.

We are particularly interested in recruiting new members who can contribute with the following skills:

  • Financial
  • Strategic Planning
  • Facilities Maintenance and Development
  • Fundraising
  • Knowledge of Dance Community
  • Government/Funder Relations

The Board meets monthly from September – June as well as additional retreats and committees to average approximately 5-10 hours/month. All Board members are expected to participate in the annual fundraiser, contribute an annual donation and attend TDT performances and events throughout the year.

Application Process
Interested in joining us? Please send the following to the Nominations Committee via Interim Managing Director Diana Weir at diana@tdt.org:

  • A brief statement of interest that describes your relevant experience and why you’re keen to get involved
  • A resume

Are you interested in getting involved but not sure if a Board position is the right step for you? Please reach out as we would love to get to know you and find a way to bring you into the fold of TDT.

TDT is committed to employment equity through a process which identifies and eliminates any discrimination in the organization’s employment procedures and policies. We encourage applications from qualified individuals who identify as LGBTQ2IA+, First Nations, Inuit & Métis, people of colour, and people with disabilities.

TDT is housed in a heritage-designated building in the heart of Cabbagetown, and the building is currently not wheelchair accessible.
