Ephemera: The Art We Didn’t Make is the premiere of a new site-responsive work by multidisciplinary artist and choreographer Blessyl Buan, co-presented with Toronto Dance Theatre, transforming public space into a living archive of unfinished dreams, abandoned ideas, and unrealized expression. Engaging the historic architecture of Toronto’s Old City Hall, the work considers what ideas are given the conditions to grow, and what remains buried beneath systems of survival, labour, and time.
Through choreography, sound, and an evolving participatory installation, audiences encounter traces of creative lives interrupted, deferred, and waiting to be witnessed. Throughout the night, dancers move through a shifting landscape of fragments, shadows, gestures, and accumulations, while visitors contribute reflections and offerings to the installation. As these materials gather over 12 hours, the work transforms from a landscape of buried ideas into a living ecosystem of witnessing, where unrealized expressions are honoured and given space to grow.
About Blessyl Buan
Blessyl Buan is a Toronto-based multidisciplinary artist working across choreography, visual art, installation, and participatory practice. Rooted in embodiment and decades of movement practice, her work explores witnessing, cultural memory, and restoring dignity to unseen voices, histories, and creative impulses. Her projects include BABAElan, commissioned by the Art Gallery of Ontario; Kapwa Kaleidoscope at Clark Centre for the Arts; and The Dream Weave for Nuit Blanche Toronto 2025. Through collective making, movement, and material exploration, she transforms public space into sites of reflection, participation, and possibility. Her newest work, Ephemera: The Art We Didn’t Make, will premiere at Nuit Blanche Toronto 2026, co-presented with Toronto Dance Theatre.
