CALL TO CHOREOGRAPHERS

EMERGING VOICES PROJECT 2019

Deadline to Apply: Friday April 26, 2019

Toronto Dance Theatre invites applications from contemporary choreographers working in any form to participate in a two-week choreographic residency and workshop, the Emerging Voices Project. The workshop will be held in Toronto from December 9 to 20, 2019 10am-6pm, Monday-Friday, in TDT’s facilities at 80 Winchester Street, Toronto.

Nine choreographers will be invited to work with mentor/facilitators Ame Henderson and Christopher House, rehearsal director Rosemary James and nine TDT dancers in this intensive project. Over the two weeks, each choreographer will spend approximately twelve hours engaged in choreographic research with the support of two dancers; the object of this research is to explore personal artistic questions and plant seeds for future development rather than focus on finished work. In addition, choreographers will participate in morning practice sharing, group discussions, showings, walking conversations with colleagues, and individual sessions with mentors.

The workshop is offered free of charge. Pending successful funding applications, choreographers may receive an honorarium for their participation. The 2017 EVP received a high volume of applications; early applications are encouraged and previously unsuccessful applicants are invited to reapply. Only applications from Canadian residents can be considered.

We welcome applications from all choreographers that identify as emerging including 2SLGBTQ+, racialized, Indigenous and disabled artists. Please note that the studios at 80 Winchester St. are not yet barrier free.

Applications must be submitted electronically to info@tdt.org by Friday April 26, 2019. Please write "EVP2019 application" in the subject line and include a one page CV, a 200 word artistic statement and up to three examples of your work on Youtube or Vimeo to a maximum of ten minutes. Applicants will be notified of results by May 24, 2019.
